ASSEMBLYWOMAN RILEY WINS BACKING FROM STATE’S LEADING GRASSROOTS ADVOCATE

New Jersey Citizen Action Cites Democrat's 'Firm Commitment'
To Education, Utility Ratepayers and Quality Health Care

(3rd Legislative District) – New Jersey Citizen Action — the state’s largest citizen watchdog coalition — has endorsed Celeste Riley for Assembly in the 3rd District.

In a letter to the Democratic team, Phyllis Salowe-Kaye, executive director of New Jersey Citizen Action (NJCA), praised their positions “for work and family issues including workers' rights, NJ's Paid Family Leave Program, and NJ Family Care.”

“You have demonstrated the vision and commitment on our issues to achieve our common goals of improving the quality of life for all of New Jersey's families,” Salowe-Kaye wrote in a letter. “Your principled positions on these issues make you the kind of leader voters need to have in Trenton.”

The state's Paid Family Leave Program provides a modest benefit to workers who need to temporarily leave their jobs to attend to a pressing family issue, such as a new baby or to care for an ailing loved one. NJ Family Care provides access to health care for children whose parents cannot afford private health insurance.

Salowe-Kaye said the group also was “impressed” with Riley's work on the issues of public education and fighting utility rate hikes.

According to its mission statement, New Jersey Citizen Action hails as the state's largest grassroots, citizen-based government watchdog coalition. The group works to protect the rights of individuals and families, and has fought to ensure that government officials stand up for the needs of constituents rather than the wants of the special interests.

“Citizen Action has rightly earned its reputation as a leader in ensuring government meets the needs of all New Jerseyans,” said Riley (D-Bridgeton). “They have been an invaluable resource in helping the Legislature understand how policy will effect the lives of the people. I look forward to continuing our partnership to move New Jersey ever forward.”

The 3rd Legislative District includes the communities of Bridgeton, Pennsville, Carney’s Point, Penns Grove, Salem, Fairfield, Mantua, and West Deptford, among many others.
