Celeste Riley
Celeste Riley is a public school teacher and taxpayer who understands the challenges facing our families. Before serving our communities in the Assembly, she was president of the Bridgeton Township Council.
Assemblywoman Riley is rooting out corruption and waste to save taxpayer money. She fought for tough accountability and limits on government spending. Today, she’s fighting to freeze state spending, conducting independent audits of every government agency, capping unused sick leave payments for government employees and eliminating perks for public officials like luxury boxes at sports events and free EZ Passes.
To get Trenton’s priorities in order, Assemblywoman Riley voted for a tax on the richest one percent of New Jersey residents and opposed cuts to senior property tax rebates and public school funding.
Assemblywoman Riley helped reform the state pension and health care benefits system to put New Jersey on solid financial ground. Taking the concept of shared sacrifice seriously, she voted to pay a little more personally to protect public workers’ pensions and save taxpayers more than $120 billion.
Assemblywoman Riley is a also strong supporter of land preservation efforts. She’s fighting to secure funding for open space, historic preservation and farmland preservation. Recently, Assemblywoman Riley championed legislation to promote and grow the New Jersey wine industry by establishing a farm brewery and winery-brewery beverage license, permitting farm wineries to produce hard cider, and creating cooperative farm winery licenses.
A graduate of Cumberland Regional High School, Assemblywoman Riley works as a teacher at the Morris Goodwin Elementary School in Greenwich Township. She is the first woman ever to represent the 3rd Legislative District.
